Student brought loaded gun to Sanger High School, police say

FRESNO, California (KFSN) – It was a quick response from two students at Sanger High School on Tuesday afternoon.

When they located another student with a gun, they reported it to the administrators.

“Sanger High is a campus that deals with issues relatively quickly,” says Sanger High School District Superintendent Eduardo Martinez.

The Sanger police officer assigned to the campus found the student and held him – the officer found a ghost-laden weapon in the student’s belt.

A ghost weapon is essentially an improvised weapon.

People order different parts and assemble the gun. It has no serial number and cannot be identified by law enforcement.

Sanger police searched the student’s home and found other weapon parts and tools, leading detectives to believe he may have been assembling firearms in the home.

On Tuesday night, the district advises parents to talk to their children about what happened as a lesson to stay alert and report insecure situations.

“For our parents, we appreciate the ongoing support to inform their children when they realize an unsafe situation, then we need to notify the campus administrators, teachers, security officers,” Martinez said. “We are all here to provide a safe environment for all students and staff at all times.”

This student has been arrested and is being held at Fresno County Juvenile Justice Center – facing multiple felony charges.

Police say they are still investigating why he brought the weapon to campus.
