Starlink adds RV plan that provides roving coverage – TechCrunch

staStarlink has added another new level of service, the second diversification of its offering in 2022 after a business option earlier this year. The new “RV” plan has a few notable differences from its standard service – including the ability to stop and start the service whenever you want.

Starlink for RV uses the same hardware as the standard offering, but automatically bundles access wherever Starlink offers service, although SpaceX says quality of service may vary depending on whether you’re in a coverage area marked as “available” (higher speeds and lower latency). ) or “waiting list” (slower speeds and higher latency during peak usage times).

Note that this is not designed for use by RVs on the move. It is intended for use while stationary in parking lots, campgrounds and RV parks during your trip.

Starlink RV costs $25 a month more than standard consumer service, which means it’s $135 a month plus the cost of hardware. If you pay close attention to Starlink’s pricing, you may find that this is the same cost as the regular service plus the “Portability” feature Starlink introduced in March This allows you to take your dish with you and use it anywhere on the same continent where the service is available.

While Starlink for RV is similar to basic Starlink + Portability, there are some key differences, including no home address required and Starlink for RV is available immediately with no waitlist. The ability to pause and resume service is also exclusive to the RV plan: Standard Starlink users aren’t locked into a tenure of service beyond the rolling 30-day period that comes with a sub, but they are cannot easily stop and start easily to operate – this could put them at the end of the queue in an area with demand on the waiting list.

Also, SpaceX is crucial in pointing out that RV customers are essentially viewed as secondary by the service compared to regular home users. That doesn’t mean you can’t connect in a busy place, but it could mean your connectivity isn’t as good.
