A 35-year-old driver in the wrong direction was killed early Sunday during a collision with a vehicle on the Pomona Highway (60) in Pomona, near the Los Angeles / San Bernardino county line.
The collision on the eastbound highway east of Phillips Ranch Road occurred around 4 a.m., the California Highway Patrol announced.
The Montclair resident was driving a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta at an unsafe speed, westward in the east-facing lanes approaching a fracture in the dividing wall of the concrete center when his car hit the edge of the wall, the CHP said.
The driver of the vehicle, the only occupant inside the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol and / or drugs are suspected factors in the crash, authorities said.
The driver’s name was not disclosed.
