SoCal teen who pushed bear off wall to save her dogs receives ‘Maglite Tough Award’ for her courage

Bradbury’s teen, who repelled a mommy bear and her girlfriend to protect a family dog, received a special honor on Friday.

Haley Moriniko, 17, told Witness News last month about the horrific trials filmed in a home surveillance video.

The shocking footage shows three other puppies barking and dirting in the backyard while the bear repeatedly swipes Haley’s mother’s service dog.

The teen took action, pushing the bear off the wall and quickly grabbing one of the dogs before returning home.

On Friday, flashlight company Maglite celebrated teenage courage with their “tough award” at a ceremony in Ontario.

Maglite usually recognizes first responders. This is the first time the company has awarded a private hero award.

“It’s so crazy. I didn’t think my actions really led to this. It’s a real honor to even be here today,” she said.

Haley says she still sees bears coming to her neighborhood every few days.

If this happened again, the teen said no when asked if she would run up to the bear, and she advises others not to do it either.
