Snake-infested house: Maryland homeowners set home on fire in attempt to smoke out snakes

Dickerson, Maryland-What started as an attempt to get rid of nasty creatures ended with the entire house burning.

An hour west of Baltimore, a nearly 10,000-square-foot home in Dickerson, Maryland, was engulfed in flames on November 23 when homeowners tried to suck out a snake epidemic on the premises. Rescue service told CNN.

Piringer said the snake was an ongoing problem for this owner and previous tenants as well.

Coal was used as a heat source for smoke, but it was too close to combustibles to catch fire, Pylinger explained.

According to the CNN-affiliated WJLA, the fire began in the basement and spread rapidly to each floor, swallowing high-rise homes.

Piringer told CNN that the owner was at home a few hours ago, but fortunately no one was there at the start of the fire. A passing neighbor saw the smoke and called 911.

Around 10 pm, 75 firefighters appeared on the scene to fight the flames.

“There were no fire hydrants in this area,” said Piringer. “This isn’t a problem because we’re used to it, but we had to shuttle with a water truck.”

It took firefighters several hours to put down the fire, but it wasn’t completely extinguished until the next morning.

Damages will be over $ 1 million, Pylinger said. According to public records, the house was recently purchased for $ 1.8 million.

The fire department considered the accident an accident because there was no evidence or intention of ignition.

Piringer recommends using other methods to combat intrusions.

“There are animal services, or pest control, or pest control companies that can come out and make recommendations,” Piringer said. “To maintain the situation, we recommend that experts address the pest control issue.”

No injuries were reported as there were no homes at the time.

The condition of the snake is unknown, but it seems that he no longer lives there because the house remained rubble.
