Smattering of Rain to Arrive Later This Week, Followed By Another Balmy Weekend

It’s hard to complain about the beautiful early spring weather in February. But we need more rain in the forecast and just a bit more is on the way for now.

An atmospheric flow is currently lashing the Pacific Northwest, and in true La Nina style, we won’t see much of that rain. The National Weather Service says the Bay Area should see some of the outer edges of this storm system by mid-week, with the North Bay being the first to have some chances of showers Wednesday afternoon. Early Thursday San Francisco and other parts of the bay have a good chance of seeing showers as well.

Like these small droplets and droplets we’ve been seeing over the past week or two, this won’t be a storm, but some parts of the region could see as much as a quarter of an inch, the NWS says.

“There is a chance the unsettled weather could continue late into the week and possibly into next weekend,” NWS forecaster Roger Gass said in Bay Area News Group Comments. “We do not expect large-scale rainfall, but rather rain showers in the colder air mass after passing through Thursday’s system.”

Temperatures will also drop Thursday, with some lows in the 30s for some parts of the Bay Area.

And it looks like another nice weekend for the first week of March, if not super warm, with sunny skies and highs close to 60 through Sunday.

After all, there is a good chance of fresh snow in the Sierra, which is urgently needed at this point.

“Overall, this is a relatively weak storm system that’s going to be sustained, and so will rainfall levels,” Gass told the Bay Area News Group.

And local climatologist and weather expert Daniel Swain suggests that, despite a little rain here and there, “there is fairly strong agreement among ensembles of multiple models that above-average conditions will persist for the next 2+ weeks through mid-March.”
