Sky River Casino to open in early September | News

Wilton Rancheria announced on July 18 that it will open its Sky River Casino in Elk Grove in early September. No specific opening day has been announced, as of the time of publication.

This $ 500 million project is located near Kammerer Road and Highway 99 on the former site of the “Ghost Mall,” the long-built Elk Grove shopping center, which was demolished in 2019, after 11 years of inactivity in the construction.

The recent announcement of the casino’s opening marked a change in the tribe’s initial schedule for the opening of this facility. Last December, Wilton Rancheria Tribe President Jesus Tarango told Citizen that the casino was aiming to open its casino doors this October.

After several years of planning, the tribe began its casino project in March 2021 and progress in this facility has continued to advance since then.

Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen responded to Wilton Rancheria’s announcement that it would open its casino earlier than expected.

“This is great news for Elk Grove and the Wilton Rancheria tribe,” he told the Citizen. “The early opening of the Sky River Casino means new jobs and a major tourist attraction for the city. I wish them tremendous success. Congratulations to the tribal leaders, members and ancestors who paved the way for this historic moment.”

The Sky River Casino was developed by Boyd Gaming, which will operate the facility through a management agreement with the 900-member Wilton Rancheria.

This 100,000-square-foot casino, which will be the closest casino to the east and south regions of Sacramento Bay and San Francisco, will feature 2,000 slot machines, 80 board games and 12 different food and beverage locations.

Chris Gibase, president and COO of Sky River Casino, praised the casino’s dining options, which will include 17 restaurants and bars from prominent local and regional restaurants.

“The Sky River Casino is an entertainment destination that will include a wide variety of restaurants

experiences that will surely excite gourmets all over the area, ”he said. “The property features state-of-the-art technology that enables an innovative approach to our loyalty program, Sky River Rewards, designed to create a memorable experience for our guests.”

At its opening, Sky River Casino will be one of the largest entrepreneurs in the Sacramento region.

In a press release, Tarango described what the project means to the tribe and community.

“Our people have struggled for decades to achieve self-sufficiency,” he said. “We are fighting for tribal recognition, for our land and for this historic project. We are privileged to partner with Boyd Gaming and look forward to the opening of Sky River, which will bring long-term jobs and benefits to our tribe, our community and the region.
