Simplified approaches to hypertension screening seem reliable

Simplified testing (BP) methods are effective in diagnosing high blood pressure without significant complications, according to a study published online April 1 in The solution of PLOS.

Rodrigo M. Carrillo-Larco, MD, from Imperial College London, and colleagues calculated the number of missed, diagnosed, and frequently diagnosed high blood pressure and risk of heart disease for 10 years in each group. The study included 60 WHO STEPS surveys (cross-country and national representation; 145,174 patients) conducted in 60 countries in six regions of the world between 2004 and 2019. Nine review methods were reviewed.

The researchers found that in all countries, the simplified method that lost the least time was used for the second BP reading if the primary BP reading was 130 to 145 mm Hg / 80 to 95 mm Hg (5.62%). Using only a second BP reading lost 5.80 percent. Using a second BP reading if the initial BP score was ≥140 / 90 mm Hg resulted in the lowest diagnostic score (3.03 percent) among the simplified procedures. A lot countries, there were no significant differences in cardiac output between missing and normal groups. Available at good relationship between cardiovascular risk and hypertension lost in connection with the simple procedure.

“Simplified BP research methods, to increase resources and access to more people, seem to be smarter, with fewer times lost,” the authors wrote.
