Shooting suspects escape after crashing car in central Fresno during chase

Fresno, Calif. (KFSN)-Authorities are looking for a group of suspects who led a representative of Fresno County Sheriff to a high-speed chase before crashing a car in central Fresno.

Investigators say lawmakers responded to shots fired near Mayfair and Weldon early Monday morning.

That’s when they saw Audi rushing away from the area. Congressmen tracked the vehicle and eventually found a vehicle with the lights off on Highway 41 near Shields Avenue.

The driver tried to get off the freeway on Ashlan Avenue, but lost control of the car, crossed the street and collided with a wall between the two businesses.

Sheriff officials said the Audi people had jumped out and fled to the northern neighborhood of Ashlan Avenue, just west of Fresno Street.

Police officers at the Clovis and Fresno police stations and the California Highway Patrol helped agents search from yard to yard. They were able to track down one of the suspects and detain them.

Authorities believe that there are a few people involved in the crash. The suspect may be armed.

Investigators found a shell casing in the suspect’s Audi, but the gun was not recovered.

The suspect’s explanation has not been announced.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said no one appeared to have been injured in the shootings at Mayfair and Weldon.
