Video footage taken by a surveillance camera stationed at a distance from the shoreline at Huntington Beach captured the moment the animal went after the boy struck her across the sand.

Family members who were with the child did not even seem to notice what was going on at their feet when the animal made its cruel attack on the little girl.

The coyote could be seen prowling at the child before making his move and pouncing, knocking her to the ground in the attack that occurred north of the pier at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Video shows the animal rubbing the baby’s face for about 15 seconds before she can leave.

The boy, who is expected to make a full recovery, then got up and walked over to one of his parents who reacted in horror.

The little girl, aged between two and three, was taken to hospital by ambulance, with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Authorities began searching for the animal that carried out the attack and killed two coyotes.

There was hope that at least one of them might be responsible for the animal TMZhowever, later on Friday it was confirmed that both were not involved in the attack.

The LA Times reported that another coyote – presumably the one behind the mauling – was also shot, but survived his wounds, and scrambled away before police could catch it.

Officers took samples from the girl’s wounds and an autopsy will be performed on the dead coyote to determine if it had rabies.

“There is no evidence to suggest that the coyote was rabies, but that test will certainly help alleviate any concerns the family may have,” said Captain Patrick Foy of the Huntington Beach Police Department. LA Times.

Foy could not say why the attack happened. The family seemed to do nothing to lure the wild animals out.

Such encounters are relatively rare, Foy suggested that people encountering wild animals should try to scare them away by making loud noises.

‘Let them not feed. That’s the most important thing we as a society can do to prevent coyotes from being too comfortable around people, ‘said Foy.
