Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 29-year-old man this week on suspicion of abducting a woman and threatening to kill her in Oceanside, authorities said.
The alleged abduction took place at about 11pm on Monday on Vista Way near College Avenue when an acquaintance took the woman against her will and drove her around North County, according to sheriff’s officials.
According to the department, the man refused to let the woman get out of the car he was driving, took her mobile phone and threatened to kill her.
About 6:30 p.m. The next day – almost 20 hours after her arrest – the woman was able to find another phone and call a friend, who notified the Sheriff’s Department.
The woman was then able to escape and get into her boyfriend’s car, but the suspect stopped them at a dead end on Hidden Vale Drive near Vale View Drive in Vista.
When the suspect spotted a sheriff’s helicopter from above, he left the area, but was soon spotted on State Route 78 in San Marcos.
Neither the victim nor her girlfriend were injured, sheriff officials said.
Deputies arrested the man on Tuesday on suspicion of kidnapping, criminal threats, robbery, possession of drugs for sale and violation of the terms of his suspension.
