UPDATE at 1:30 p.m. – Sheep fire is now estimated at 45 hectares in size and 5% restrained. Officials said the fire was becoming more active, with some burning / burning of trees inside.

The teams are actively working on the perimeter of the fire, while the operations of the fixed wings have been completed for now. Road closures continue along State Road 2. Several homes in the Desert Front Road area have already begun evacuation.

WRIGHTWOOD, California (VVNG.com) – The vegetation fire that has been burning in the Wrightwood mountain community since Saturday night seems to have risen as winds rose and caused smoke to billow into the sky on Sunday.

A fire called ‘Sheep Fire’ was first reported at 18:36, on Saturday, June 11, 2022, in the Angeles National Forest and was originally reported to have been 1/4 acre in size.

From 8:00 a.m., Sunday morning, a total area of ​​35 acres with 5% closure was reported. Officials said the fire was burning far from the city of Wrightwood. About 200 firefighters were hired for the incident.

The fire is also reported to be burning about 2.3 miles from the nearest facilities on Desert Front Road.

The fire is jointly managed under a single command by the National Forest of Angeles and Cal Fire BDU (San Bernardino Unit). The San Bernardino County Fire is helping to put out the fire. Highway 2 remains closed from Highway 138 to Sheep Creek Road.
