Search Underway for Suspected Car Burglar Who Slashed Vehicle Owner with Machete in Otay Mesa

A man who was probably trying to break into a car in a neighborhood of the Otay Mesa area in the early hours of Monday attacked the owner of the vehicle with a machete after the victim confronted him, authorities said.

The 20-year-old victim was at a social gathering at 3000 Magellan Street when someone told him that a man was outside “messing with his car” at around 3:30 p.m. San Diego Police said Officer Sarah Foster.

The owner of the vehicle went out and confronted the unknown suspect, who responded by pulling the knife and cutting it repeatedly before running, according to Foster.

Rescuers transported the victim to the hospital for treatment of injuries of unknown severity.
