SCVNews.com | Sulphur Springs Union School District Makes Masks Optional March 12

The Sulfur Springs Union District School Superintendent, Dr. Catherine Kavaguchi, has written to school district families announcing that the district will make masks mandatory on March 12 in school classrooms and on school buses.

The full text of his letter is reprinted below.

Good evening, Sulfur Springs Families. This is Dr. Catherine Kavaguchi, your Inspector, updated Friday, March 4, 2022.

Last week I provided you with updates on any changes to the Los Angeles County health and safety protocols. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has not yet updated its Reopening Protocols to announce further changes than what I have already shared with you.

Please note the changes that have either already been made or will be made in the near future.

The internal school masking mandate will be changed from mandatory to K-12 to optional for students, staff, volunteers and visitors starting March 12.

Any student sitting on a school bus on March 12 has the opportunity to wear a mask, it is not necessary. School buses are considered a school environment.

Los Angeles County schools no longer require screening for symptoms of students, staff, volunteers, or visitors. Regional office staff will not monitor this progress.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is expected to release reports of the reopening of K-12 schools this week. I will share with you any changes that may affect how our region implements the Protocols, if necessary. It can always be remembered that state requirements and recommendations are subject to change; local health agencies may have additional requirements than state-federal requirements.
