SCVNews.com | Single Mothers Outreach Receives $5,000 Spectrum Employee Community Grant

Spectrum announced a $5,000 donation to Single Mothers Outreach through the company’s national community philanthropy program, Spectrum Employee Community Grants.

Single Mothers Outreach is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower single parents and their children by providing hope, support and resources so families can become self-sufficient and thrive. Serving the Santa Clarita Valley area, the group helps single parents find jobs, get an education, secure housing, stabilize their children’s emotional well-being, manage their finances and help each other.

The Spectrum Employee Community Grant was awarded to help single moms at their annual back-to-school giving event on August 4th. Santa Clarita Mayor Lauren Weste attended the celebration with Spectrum executives. Funding will support single parents with clothing, supplies, training, mental health support and more.

“On behalf of the many families we serve, we want to express our deepest gratitude to Spectrum for their generous donation of $5,000, which will allow our organization to provide mental health services and other critical care to mothers and children in need,” said Yorleni. Sapp, Executive Director, Single Mothers Outreach. “The funding will support many single-parent families in our community who continue to struggle with the impact and consequences of the pandemic.”

“I am pleased to congratulate Single Mothers Outreach for the Spectrum Employee Community Grant for the important work they do here in Santa Clarita for parents and families,” Weste said. “Through their extensive services, classes and resources for single parents, Single Mothers Outreach provides the vital support and care needed to help families in need build happy and healthy lives.”

Spectrum employee Jeffrey Lee nominated Single Mothers Outreach for the grant.

“From the moment I heard about helping single mothers and what they were doing, I knew I had to get involved in some way,” said Jeffrey Lee, senior accountant at Spectrum. “Even though they’re called single moms, they actually support single dads too. I also like that they include accountability rounds with a show of hands and not just handouts. I am grateful that Spectrum supports this organization that means so much to me.”

Spectrum Employee Community Grants has provided funding to more than 325 local nonprofits in 31 states in the company’s service area since its July 2019 launch.

“Through Spectrum Employee Community Grants, we are proud to support important community organizations with which our local employees already volunteer their time and talents,” said Spectrum Senior Vice President Deborah Picciolo. “Together, we’re building stronger communities where our customers and employees live and work across America.”

Recipients provide critical social services by helping disadvantaged residents meet basic needs, including food, shelter, clothing, job training and neighborhood safety. Each awardee is nominated by one of the company’s 93,000 US employees who has volunteered with the organization for at least one year.
