The California Department of Motor Vehicles has partnered with United Airlines and Los Angeles International Airport to launch a first-of-its-kind pilot program that allows California-based passengers and employees to conveniently complete an application for their Real ID at Los Angeles International Airport. .

This joint effort is designed to ensure travelers who want to fly domestically have a Real ID or other federally approved identification when the new requirements go into effect in May 2023.

This is the first time the DMV has hosted a pop-up location at an airport that allows applicants to fill out a Real ID application while they wait for their flights or land at LAX.

The pilot program will be held on July 19, 21, 26 and 28, with the possibility of extension to meet demand. Ticketed passengers and airport staff must begin the online application and upload their documents at least 48 hours before meeting with DMV representatives in Terminal 8 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Customers must bring their original uploaded documents to be checked at the airport and a copy of the confirmation page. They must also provide a fingerprint and electronic signature and take a photo to complete their application.

“Partnering with United Airlines and LAX allows us to connect directly with the traveling public and provide them with a unique opportunity to obtain a REAL ID without visiting a DMV office,” said DMV Director Steve Gordon. “Technology makes it easier for us to connect with Californians and develop applications using mobile tablets. We encourage people to take advantage of this offer and get Real ID now. It could be your most important hand.”

United is always looking for ways to make travel more seamless for our customers, and working with the DMV and LAWA to allow our California-based customers to receive their real ID at our terminal is another way that we bring them comfort,” they said. Jonna McGrath, LAX CEO for United Airlines. “I’m excited that LAX will be the first airport where United is piloting this program with the DMV, and we look forward to expanding this offer to other hubs across the United States to help more customers get their REAL ID in our terminals”.

“Los Angeles International Airport has a reputation for innovation and partnerships, making us the perfect airport to launch this Real ID pilot program,” said Martin Elam, Los Angeles World Airports Deputy Executive Director of Public Safety and Security. “We thank United Airlines and the California Department of Motor Vehicles for working with us to provide our guests with this special opportunity to obtain REAL ID with convenient, secure and first-class service for those already arriving at our airport for flying or working. “.
