Gorges College faced conference-leader Bakersfield College at Whiten Field on Thursday, losing 4-2 in a close-knit game.

Bakersfield (26-6, 8-0) was the leader for most of the ball game, but Canyons (18-11, 4-4) managed to make a few runs in the first and third innings.

COC freshman Samantha Flores (7-7) The Kugars spent four innings. Defeated, Flores gave up three runs with five strokes, made four strokes and struck one.

Canyons head coach John Wismat watched Alison Melgar for lightening during the last three innings. Melgar hit 13 blows, making two blows, one walking, three rebounds in one run.

Before entering the circle, Melgar started from the third base and registered an RBI near the plate.

Ashley Hackbrought home the double in the third Muoroz Memory: for tying run.

However, Bakersfield regained the lead in the fourth and did not give up the rest of the way.

The Cougars tried to gather in seventh place, loading the bases, but could not find the home plate, ending in a 4-2 defeat.

The COC will resume the conference game on the way to Mission College in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 12.
