Canyon Theater Guild, located in Old Town Newhall, has announced this year’s six senior scholarship winners.

CTG, a nonprofit community theater in the Santa Clarita Valley, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, which includes awarding six $750 scholarships to graduating high school seniors.

For the past 22 years, the theater has awarded scholarships to graduating high school seniors and enjoys seeing those students apply the scholarships to achieve their educational goals. Winners were selected based on personal essays and letters of recommendation.

The winners of the 2022 Canyon Theater Guild Senior Scholarships are:

Charlie Spainhower. The Mercy Holiday Scholarship

Coleman Payne. The Mike Levine Scholarship

George Chavez, III. Darrell Roberts Scholarship

Angie Rios Palma. Patty and Greg Finley Scholarship

Leia Cockerell. The James Robinson Scholarship

India Glover: The Darrell Roberts Memorial Scholarship

With the recent impact of COVID-19 on college admissions, the CTG organization believes in supporting and assisting our students during this uncertain time and making the process as easy as possible for our high school students who are facing unprecedented challenges.

“Choosing the winner was difficult because we were impressed with all the applicants and are very happy to know that these young people are out there and ready to face the challenges of the future,” said Jennifer Teague, CTG Youth Programs and Director. Department:

Whether providing scholarships to seniors, offering workshops to SCV youth, or creating an entertainment outlet for the family, CTG is passionate about supporting the community and believes this year’s recipients will do the same.

“Thanks to the amazing generosity of two very special angels at the Canyon Theater Guild, we were able to award $4,500 in scholarships this year. It’s very gratifying, especially during this unique time, to be able to help six incredible seniors as they take the next step in realizing their dreams,” said CTG Executive and Artistic Director TimBen Boydston.
