Lisa Kerr, author of children’s books, will be at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve on Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to sign her new children’s book, Wake Up, Sleepy.

Written in lyrical prose with beautifully detailed illustrations of native Mohawk desert plants and animals, Awake, Sleep One traces the incredible journey of the California poppy from seed to flower to rare super-flower. The story is instructive և includes information on desert trekking, wildlife viewing և History of the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve.

Admission to the park will be canceled for this event. The book will be available at the Garden Visitor Association Non-Commercial Gift Shop.

Publishers Weekly, Spring 2022 Children’s Sneak Previews wrote: “The Western Edge Rises, Shining Debut by Lisa Kerry’s Wake, Sleepy One, illustrated by Lisa Powell Brown, which gives a non-fictional look to the super blooming of California wildflowers.”

Lisa Kerr is an author of children’s books, essayist, playwright, pedagogue and former teacher. His work has been featured in magazines and publications, including the Huffington Post, New York Magazine, Bustle, and more. After a visit to see the recent California super boom, he was inspired to study and then write “Wake up, sleepy.”
