Reverend Iraqi-American trumpeter, santor player, vocalist-composer Amir El Safar returns to The Soraya Northridge on Saturday, April 23, at 8 p.m.

ElSaffar combines elements of traditional Middle Eastern’s modal music with American jazz to create a mesmerizing sound hybrid that moves toward unfettered free exploration of music.

ElSaffar is accompanied by its diverse, virtuoso 17-piece pan-Arabic Rivers of Sound Orchestra featuring Middle Eastern masters, including US jazz stars including guitarist Miles Okazaki, drummer Nashit Waits, and drummer Legend.

This performance marks El Safar’s third appearance on The Soraya, the first with his Rivers of Sound band. The ensemble consists of 17 musicians from a wide range of music worlds. Together, the band creates a new voice that transcends established notions of style and conventionality.

ElSaffar started Rivers of Sound in 2015 եց released a double LP, “Not Two”, in 2017 on New Amsterdam Records. Rivers of Sound has performed at festivals, concert halls and opera houses around the world.

Award-winning Indian-American classical vocalist Aditya Prakash, who won the award for the opening night, brings the Aditya Prakash ensemble to Soraya for the first time.
