Scientists find evidence for biggest earthquake in human history

Archaeologists have found evidence of the largest known earthquake in human history – a terrifying magnitude 9.5 megaquake that created a 5,000-mile (8,000-kilometer) long tsunami and caused human populations to sear the nearby shores for 1,000 years leave, according to a new study.

The earthquake happened about 3,800 years ago in what is now northern Chile, when a tectonic plate Fracture raised the coast of the region. The ensuing tsunami was so powerful that it created waves up to 20 meters high and traveled as far as New Zealand, where it threw car-sized boulders hundreds of kilometers inland, the researchers found.
