Tentative Agreement Reached for U.S. West Coast Port Contracts: Unions and Employers

The Longshore Union of U.S. West Coast ports and the employers of 22,000 dockworkers announced Wednesday that they have reached a tentative agreement on new six-year contracts covering workers in all 29 West Coast ports. .
The Pacific Maritime Association said in a tweet that the agreement was reached with the assistance of Acting U.S. Labor Secretary Julie Sue, adding that the agreement requires ratification by both parties.
The Pacific Maritime Association and the International Coastal Warehousing Association have not released details of the agreement at this time.
Dockworkers spread from California to Washington have been working without contracts since July, and negotiations spanned 13 months.
Unions want a bigger share of the record profits they made when freight traffic surged during the pandemic.
