Santa Clara County Begins Door-to-Door Testing – NBC Bay Area

The Northern California county has launched a coronavirus on-site pilot program in the majority of Latino communities that have become hotspots for the virus.

Volunteers in Santa Clara County began distributing self-test kits last week in the East San Jose district of San Jose, Silicon Valley. 55% of the population is Latino, and authorities say many residents do not have easy access to the test site.

Color communities across the country are disproportionately affected by the virus.

The Santa Clara County initiative is on its way to California with more than 325,000 COVID-19 vaccines on Sunday, with record numbers of cases and shrinking intensive care unit capacity.

The first shipment of Pfizer vaccine left Michigan early Sunday for 145 distribution centers nationwide. The state is vaccinated based on the adult population, with additional shipments planned this week.

Vaccines are heading to hospitals and other locations across the country where they can be stored at very low temperatures of around 94 degrees below freezing. Pfizer uses containers with dry ice and GPS-enabled sensors to keep each cargo cooler than the Antarctic weather.

Another record day for a new confirmed case occurred on Saturday in California. The county has specific quotas that are distributed to hospitals that state health authorities have determined to have adequate storage capacity, to serve the high-risk medical population, and to vaccinate. People soon. The priority is to inoculate healthcare workers at the forefront of a pandemic that has infected more than 16 million people and killed nearly 298,000 people in the United States alone.

Governor Gavin Newsom Tweet A group of medical professionals convened by the western states met on Saturday to discuss the vaccine and confirm that it was safe for public use. Distribution could start as early as Sunday, according to Newsom.

Vaccines are coming as the holiday season goes well and the situation becomes even more dire day by day across the country and in California. Public health officials are afraid that the already surge in infection rates and hospitalizations will continue to increase as people ignore the precautions that people gather for vacations.

On Saturday, the number of ICU beds available in the San Joaquin Valley plummeted to zero for the first time, and San Francisco reported the highest 323 new cases since the pandemic began. Millions of Californians have been curfewed in most of the state.
