Streets were littered with glass and trash cans with red cups and bottles as students tried to shake off a persistent cat from Friday’s party before turning into a rough and violent eruption in the streets around one of the party’s most famous party schools. the nation.

First responders were suddenly in the middle of the afternoon at around 3.30pm to introduce a triage system in which the most serious cases take precedence over medical emergencies.

The chaos began early in the weekend with three arrests and 20 citations handed out on the first night of Isla Vista’s Deltopia weekend where the University of California, Santa Barbara is based. But that seems to have been calm compared to Saturday’s scandal.

Problems with excessive partying have persisted for decades on this roughly half a square mile that is home to 23,000 people, but the violence has led politicians, university officials, police and student leaders to call for more cautious celebrations.

The daytime bash known as Deltopia has not been sanctioned by the university or formally planned, but it is a well-known happening the first weekend of spring quarter in the community next to UC Santa Barbara’s campus and picturesque beach cliffs.

It originated from Floatopia, which started in 2004, which included a beach party that has been banned since 2009 after it was considered an environmental and safety hazard due to garbage, human waste and nearby drownings. Since then, beaches have been closed that weekend, and the party migrated a block inland to Del Playa Drive.

Authorities raided patrols after a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student fell to her death from the cliffs in 2008 and collapsed into an overcrowded balcony, injuring several partygoers.

With the spread of social media, the party has grown in size.

Apparently, tens of thousands of people packed the streets on Saturday in classic Isla Vista clothing – bikinis, flip-flops, tank tops and shorts.

With drinks in hand, they line yards for two-story apartment buildings and full overhanging balconies.
