Police said Velasquez also noted that “he had intimate knowledge about his former co-workers’ residences and their daily behavior patterns.”

In April, police received a report from a local construction company about a former employee who engaged in surveillance behavior toward a number of co-workers. The man, identified as Velasquez, was fired from the company in January.

An examination of records also revealed that Velasquez had several weapons registered on him. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives worked closely with Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office to pass an arrest warrant for Velasquez, charged him with a felony, and obtained a restraining order on gun violence to seize all of his weapons.

Last Thursday, the San Jose Police Intelligence Unit (CRU) and the Air Conditioning Unit took the Velasquez into custody without incident. A number of weapons, including two AR assault rifles, high-capacity magazines, hundreds of ammunition bullets, tactical body armor, and materials for the private production and assembly of weapons or ghost rifles were seized, police said.
