Caltrans Breaks Ground on Highway 46/41 Interchange Project

Caltrans broke ground Tuesday on a project to build a new interchange on Highway 46/41 “Y” in northern San Luis Obispo County.

The project will also extend approximately four miles of Highway 46 from west of Davis Road to west of Antelope Road to four lanes.

Caltrans representatives joined local government and transportation leaders to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony at a ceremony just off the highway in Choram.

According to Caltrans, the project will improve traffic safety by increasing transit areas, better accommodating existing truck traffic, minimizing collisions and reducing congestion during current and future peak hours. It is designed to

This follows a project that expanded U.S. Route 46 in multiple stages, starting in Paso Robles. Eventually, the highway will become a four-lane highway from Highway 101 in Paso Robles to Interstate 5 in Kern County.

The $148 million project is expected to take three years to complete.
