SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine is being felt around the world, and here in San Diego a local San Diego currently has a family in Ukraine.
Yuliya Georgieva, a local Ukrainian, teamed up with KUSI’s Logan Byrnes in “Good Evening San Diego” to discuss her situation amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Georgieva said she had a family in both western Ukraine and Kyiv and had not heard from them in days.
“Everyone is planning to stay and fight for their land. Whoever I talk to, whoever I know, they say that this is our land, we have nowhere to go. “I will stay and fight,” Georgieva described.
She described her mother as telling her that she would use a shovel to protect herself because that’s all she has left.
As time went on, Georgieva found solace in talking to people, friends, crying together, supporting each other and talking to her family when she could.
