San Diego Unified board unanimously votes in support of abortion rights and access –

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – On Tuesday, the San Diego Unified School District unanimously passed a resolution in favor of “reproductive rights” and access to abortion.

The official Twitter account of San Diego Unified (@SDSchools), announced that the resolution was introduced by Board Vice President Sabrina Bazzo and co-sponsored by Student Council member Zachary Patterson.

The tweet reads: “The resolution states that prohibitions on the right to exercise reproductive freedoms are detrimental to public health and safety and are contrary to the values of the people of San Diego and the State of California.”

The school district celebrated Democratic Mayor Todd Gloria, along with other Democrat-elected Democrats in San Diego, who voted unanimously.

Bazzo told the San Diego Union Tribune that “everyone should have access to safe, legal and accessible abortion. “Prohibitions on the right to exercise reproductive freedoms are detrimental to public health and safety.”

The unanimous vote comes after the Supreme Court leaked a draft opinion, signaling that the court would overturn Roe v. Wade.

Roe’s overthrow of Wade would give each of the 50 states the right to enact their own abortion laws, and here in California, nothing will change.

Rival and anxious parents tell KUSI that the local school district has no business making a political statement about Supreme Court rulings.
