SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The California Penitentiary Department is seeking permanent measures that would lead to the early release of thousands of violent offenders as well as “non-violent second strikers.”
The plan is being pushed back by San Diego Prosecutor Summer Stephen, who argues that the new release regulations will threaten the safety of our communities and those who have fallen victim to crime.
The Corrections Department is required to hold a public comment period before the regulations become permanent.
They should also consider and consider all comments made.
DA Summer Stephan joined KUSI Ginger Jeffries at “Good Evening San Diego” to discuss early release regulations.
The CDCR is open to public comment on this until April 13.
