Public health officials in San Diego County recommended that residents be vaccinated against the flu on Wednesdays, before the increase in typical cases during holidays and winters.

“Indoor holiday celebrations and other gatherings facilitate the spread of the flu,” said Dr. Wilma Uten, a county public health officer. “Vaccines are the best defense against the flu. Vaccine now to prevent getting sick and others getting sick.”

Following 123 infections reported in the week ending on Saturday, the county’s seasonal total is 535 cases. The average for the five years of the day is 505.

Every Wednesday during the flu season, the Department of Health and Welfare publishes a weekly report on the flu watch. This report tracks key influenza indicators and summarizes local influenza surveillance.

Weekly flu-like illness emergency visits ending Saturday increased from 3% last week to 4%, but the total number of influenza deaths to date has been zero, the same as last season. bottom. ..
