Sale goes bad, man shot

A 20-year-old man was shot and wounded while trying to sell some items to another man Friday night in City Heights, according to San Diego police.

In a news release, police said the victim had been driven to meet another person on Sumac Drive near Juniper Street just before 7pm for the sale. Police did not specify what the man was trying to sell.

At some point another man went to the car and tried to steal the items the first man was trying to sell. There was a brief struggle, and then the second man fired several times, hitting the victim in the left calf and right leg, police said.

The assailant fled on foot. The victim was able to drive to a nearby gas station to call the police. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that police did not believe were life-threatening.
