48th Crown City Classic We will start registering for the 5k distance on Thursday and hope that runners will be able to participate in the July race in Coronado as usual.
The July 4th tradition welcomes more than 2,000 athletes each year.
The 2021 Crown City Classic kicks off a holiday weekend at Coronado Tidelands Park on Saturday morning, July 3rd. Both 12k — 7.4 miles – and 5k events offer views of the downtown San Diego skyline and the Coronado Bridge. It runs along part of the parade route and attracts spectators advertised as the largest Independence Day parade on the west coast.
Jamie Monroe, Race Director of Easy Day Sports, said: “In 2021, all city-wide fanfares celebrating Independence Day will take place on Saturday, July 3, making Crown City Classic a perfect kick-off for a holiday weekend.
“The combination of stunning waterfront views and patriotic atmosphere throughout the community creates the perfect summer racing dynamics that runners don’t want to miss,” Monroe said.
In 2020, the Crown City Classic was held as a live modified event and was one of the only face-to-face races in the San Diego region during an ongoing coronavirus pandemic. With recent announcements related to the full reopening of California, event organizers are confident that the event will be held live in 2021 with appropriate precautions and modifications.
Crown City Classic helps support the local non-profit Islander Sports Foundation and encourages runners to take advantage of special 5k early bird prices until Saturday.
