Rams’ Darrell Henderson could miss Buccaneers game – San Bernardino Sun

Their major rushers will face important health checks before Rams faces quality testing early this season.

How Darrell Henderson’s rib running back feels on Friday will determine whether he will face Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers at SoFi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Henderson will not practice on Wednesday or Thursday, leaving a 27-24 victory over the Rams’ Indianapolis Colts in what Sean McVay called a rib cartilage injury in the second half.

If necessary, Rams will fill in on behalf of Henderson as Sony Michel did in the fourth quarter in Indianapolis, and rookie Jake Funk will be ready to make his first NFL carry. Deaf, McBay said.

“We want to give him as much time as possible to be healthy,” McBay said on Monday in Henderson. “I can be confident that he will be available once the pain has subsided.”

McBay said Henderson was “hopeful and optimistic” to play on Sunday.

But Rams knows that rib injuries can be frustrating.

A year ago this week, McBay said the Come Acres had a “chance” to face Buffalo Bills after the rookie defeated the Philadelphia Eagles and separated the rib cartilage. Acres missed a defeat with Bills in the next match.

In the playoffs last season, McBay and Aaron Donald seemed convinced that a defensive tackle rib injury wouldn’t stop him from playing against the Green Bay Packers. Donald played only 53% of the defensive snaps and was on the sidelines at the end of the Rams season.

That’s why Rams traded to win Michelle from the New England Patriots in August. Acres was out in the season with a rupture of the Achilles tendon. Henderson’s own durability was questionable.

When Henderson was injured in his first play in the fourth quarter against Colts, Michelle took over and scored 46 yards with 10 carries. This includes four straight carries of 10, 5, 11, and 6 yards, suitable for three of the first four downs on the drive for Rams to win a field goal. It didn’t work when quarterback Matthew Stafford gave Michelle the ball three times in a row when Rams tried to run out of watches, and he was stopped for a yard, two or two yards. ..

“I know this is really a big-time guy,” McBay said of Michelle, who played in the only touchdown to beat the Rams in the Patriots Super Bowl LIII.

Wide receiver Robert Woods said it’s hard to see Henderson injured, but it’s fun to see Michelle’s excitement down the sideline.

“He came in, smiled and looked like’it’s time’,” Woods said on Monday. “Really, see his energy and excitement, just go out into the field and finish the game for us.

“I’m really excited to see what he can do. I finally got the chance to carry the ball.”
