Rain and Snow in Southern California This Weekend – Orange County Register

Weather forecasters expect two winter storms and a small amount of snow in parts of Southern California Friday through Sunday.

On Thursday, Dec. 1, meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Los Angeles said the storm “will bring widespread rain to the area and is likely to bring snow to resort-level mountains.”

The storm is expected to hit Santa Barbara County the hardest, where communities could receive 3 to 6 inches of rain over the next three days.

However, less total precipitation is expected in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Both counties can receive about an inch of rain, although the mountainous areas can see more total rainfall.

Further south and east, Orange County and the Inland Empire will see only 1/10th to 1/5th of an inch of precipitation, and the high deserts will see even less.

“The first wave of the bifurcated system hit[San Luis Obispo]County this afternoon, harnessing warm subtropical air to generate light and moderate rain,” a meteorologist at the NWS Los Angeles office said Thursday. “This will slide down the coast overnight, bringing rain to most areas by Friday morning.”

Little snowfall is expected. Mountainous terrain at 7,000 feet will produce light dust first, with some snow dropping to about 6,000 feet. However, the NWS said it is unlikely that there will be any snow on the main mountain routes. However, they warned that the roads would be slippery and wet in winter conditions.

“If there is a belt of heavy rain, rockfall can occur on mountain passes,” they wrote. “Be sure to allow extra time for driving and extra time for commuting as the roads are wet and slippery.”
