Quarantine hit Ronnie’s Kickin’ opens new Hollywood hangout

After two years of delayed dreams and a successful pop-up with fried chicken in quarantine, Ronnie Munoz has finally launched his new Hollywood brick and mortar: Ronnie’s Kitchen + Cocktails. The daily menu of the New American gastropub includes the cult favorite of the chef Kickin ‘spicy fried chicken, as well as classics from gourmet restaurant chains, such as deep fried, brazenly called “blooming” cookie with onion and pan, garnished with ice cream.

But there is more in the process of preparation. At the same extensive address 5960 Sunset Boulevard, Muñoz – together with Sunset Food Group – will open three other eating concepts in the near future: Besties Burgers, a gourmet hamburger restaurant for home; Todos Santos, a luxury Mexican restaurant; and a still-unnamed showcase inspired by New York. Until then, the full-service Ronnie’s Kitchen will host 80 indoor snack bars, a 20-foot bar with 10 TVs for gaming days and a small outdoor patio.

The more carefree cooking of the sophisticated chef first gained recognition throughout the city after Los Angeles Times covered its quarantine pop-up truck turned into Ronnie’s Kickin ‘food, a concept for fried chicken, whose Instagram account soon gathered over 10,000 followers. In the midst of the food truck’s appearance, it drew socially distant lines spanning several blocks, with Munoz and his team often selling early.

Before the pandemic, Munoz went from a chef at Stella Barra to a chef at Tom Colicchio’s Craft in Century City and just left the latter in hopes of opening his own restaurant. Before 2020, he helped open four restaurants, including the now-closed Paley, a luxurious new American place three blocks from where Ronnie’s Kitchen is today.

Now fully in charge of Ronnie’s Kitchen, Munoz hopes to add a gourmet flavor driven by the chef to the familiar all-American comfort dishes that most visitors already love. From quick office lunches for close Netflix employees to game days and family outings, Ronnie’s Kitchen + Cocktails is filming to become Angelenos’ favorite, casual, casual restaurant. “It’s really for everyone,” he said. “He imitates all the favorite American restaurant chains, with much more thought and care.”

People will be able to experience the difference in quality, adds Munoz, compared to the usual corporate franchises for only a few dollars more per appetizer. “We don’t eat well here,” he said of the price range. Instead, the menu at Ronnie’s Kitchen focuses on getting the most out of everything on the menu, from precision-processed buffalo cauliflower to iceberg lettuce made from bacon dried on the spot. Even the proposal for a vegan chicken sandwich made with Daring pie and chickpea-based aioli doesn’t feel overdue.

Considering the Cocktail section on behalf of the restaurant, Ronnie’s will also offer a full menu of craft cocktails, plus wines and local draft beers. Like the food menu, each cocktail is designed to be familiar and uncomplicated, but unequivocally well prepared.

Unlike many expensive ones Hollywood The hotspots that have opened up in recent months, the food and atmosphere at Ronnie’s Kitchen are not just for special occasions or for affluent visitors to Los Angeles who can regularly afford such expensive meals. Instead, it’s meant to be fun, Munoz says, including a few playful dishes that people could share on social media, such as deep-fried flowering onions and bright blue Speed Racer, a cocktail made with tequila, ginger, blue raspberries and lime. .

“People will go there once or twice,” the chef added to his upscale neighbors, “but Ronnie will be a place where you become regulars.”

Ronnie’s Kitchen + Cocktails (5960 Sunset Blvd, Hollywood) opens Wednesday, March 23rd. Initial working hours: Sun-Thu 11 am-midnight; Fri, Saturday 11-2 o’clock in the morning.
