As for the races involving local Elk Grove politicians, the November election is sure to be dramatic. “First I want to take a moment and thank my family. My husband Reuben is here – by the way it’s his birthday – and he’s always been encouraging and supportive, even in my darkest moments: and campaigns can be dark: that sure.

I also want to thank my two children: Ollie and Maya. I know it’s been a long time coming. I love you both very much and thank you for supporting me even though it is very difficult to do so.

What an amazing team we have: Ryan, Alison and our countless inmates. This team mostly volunteers have worked very hard over the last few months to make sure voters know about this race and this campaign. I am very proud of the work we have done together.

We knocked on thousands of doors, sent almost 10,000 postcards, sent more than 50,000 text messages, made more than 40,000 phone calls, and in the last three days alone we dropped 5,000 hangers.

Here’s the thing. This campaign is not about me. It never was. These are the people of this region. I have dispensed with this seat for the 20 percent of high school youth who contemplate suicide and do not receive the mental health care they need.

I rushed for this seat for the countless people living on the street who need real solutions to their biggest challenges:

I bragged about this position because we need a supervisor who is committed and accountable to the people they serve.

I dispensed with this seat for the countless people in this county who need to work two to three jobs just to be able to live.

I dispensed with this seat for mothers who cannot afford childcare because it currently requires 57 percent of a single mother’s salary to pay for it.

I dispensed with this seat because future generations deserve a climate plan that will get us to zero carbon as quickly as possible.

We are confident that we will pass the primaries. Of course we don’t know yet. But one thing is for sure. I ran to be a voice for the people and no matter the outcome of this race, I will continue to do just that. “
