Pomona man arrested in fatal shooting of man in Claremont – Daily Bulletin

A Pomona man was arrested on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of a man in a Claremont hotel parking lot early Monday morning, July 18, police said.

At approximately 12:10 a.m., Claremont Police Department officers responded to the Claremont Lodge at 736 South Indian Hill Blvd. Regarding reports of gunfire in the area, police said in a press release. Officers found a man down in the parking lot suffering from at least one gunshot wound, authorities said.

Despite life-saving efforts by officers and personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department, the man died of his injuries at the scene, officials said.

The suspect fled before officers arrived, but he was later located in West Covina and taken into custody without incident, the Police Department said. The suspect was identified as 45-year-old John Martinez, police said.

Martinez is being held on $4 million bail, officials said.

The victim’s identity was being withheld pending notification of family, police said.

It was not immediately clear what the motive for the shooting was.
