Police identify woman found dead at California construction site in 2001

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (AP) — More than 20 years after a woman’s body was found at a construction site near Los Angeles, police have identified her as the mother who had last been in contact with the family in 1981.

Redondo Beach Police said in a statement Friday that the remains of Katherine Parker-Johnson were identified earlier this year through DNA comparisons with her daughter and sister.

The statement said her family last had contact with Parker Johnson in the Lenox area of ​​Los Angeles in May 1981. Police say she has not received a missing person report.

The body was found on August 29, 2001 during a construction project in a residential area of ​​Redondo Beach. Police said they conducted an investigation at the time but were unable to identify the body.

A homicide investigation into Parker Johnson’s death is currently active, according to people familiar with the matter.

Additional details were not immediately available. Police have scheduled a press conference for Monday morning to discuss the incident and ask for the public’s cooperation.
