Photos show how close 18-acre Santee fire came to homes

Santee, CA — On Thanksgiving Day, a fire in Santee spread to 18 acres and unpleasantly approached some homes, warning them of evacuation.

Onscene.TV captured videos of residents and first responders working to protect their property as fires threaten their homes near Ramsgate Drive and Hill Creek Road. A man grabbed the hose and put out the flames within a few centimeters of the backyard. The second footage showed a firefighter running a hose in the backyard and an evacuation warning was sent to the residents.

“I’m evacuating my family now,” said resident Carlo Carrosian. “When I heard the helicopter telling us to evacuate, I turned around and the entire backyard was on fire.”

According to Kyle Moyneur, chief of Santee Fire Battalion, reaching the fire was a bit difficult and the situation at Santa Ana heightened the threat. When firefighters attacked from the ground, planes and helicopters created airdrops on fire.

By 1:00 pm, Santee Fire said the forward diffusion rate had stopped at 18 acres. According to the captain, the annex may have been damaged, but no damage to the house has been reported.
