Pfizer says 3 COVID shots protect children under 5

Pfizer says its three small doses of the COVID-19 vaccine protect children under the age of 5 and plans to provide data to U.S. regulators later this week.

This is the last step in letting the little ones shoot.

Pfizer data showed that a three-dose vaccine was 80% effective against omicron infection in children aged 6 months to 5 years.

However, researchers at the company said the data was preliminary and that more testing was needed to see how the three-dose vaccine comes out against serious diseases.

18 million children under the age of 5 are the only group in the U.S. that is not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Modern Food and Drug Administration has begun evaluating data from its rival.

The company hopes to offer two shots for the kids for the summer.

The FDA has set provisional dates for its scientific advisers to publicly discuss Pfizer and Modern data next month.
