Pedestrian killed in Oceanside hit-and-run

A pedestrian was killed in the early hours of Sunday when the driver of an SUV climbed a sidewalk in Oceanside and hit her before leaving, police said.

The collision occurred around 8:20 a.m. on Benet Street near Leepish Drive, according to Oceanside police.

According to witnesses and physical evidence, the victim was walking on the sidewalk when a black Honda SUV drove to the sidewalk and hit her. The SUV then overturned and drove away, police said.

The woman died before being taken to hospital, police said.

Oceanside police did not release a description of the person driving the vehicle. Researchers do not know if drugs, alcohol or speed were factors.
