‘Brady Bunch’ house sells for $3.2 million, a 9% loss for HGTV – Orange County Register

The Studio City home famous for its role as the exterior of “The Brady Bunch” has sold for $3.2 million.

New owner Tina Trahan plans to keep the 5,140-square-foot house with five bedrooms and five bathrooms as is. That goes for the burnt orange and avocado green kitchen, the house plans on Mike’s desk, and even Tiger’s dog house in the backyard.

The Wall Street Journal first reported that Trahan, a collector of art and historic homes and wife of former HBO chief Chris Albrecht, expressed an interest in buying the “Brady Bunch” house to her longtime real estate agent Marcy Roth of the Eklund Gomes team at Douglas Elliman.

Roth thought that she was joking.

As it turned out, Trahan, a fan of the 1970s sitcom about a blended family, was serious about buying the circa 1959 house but didn’t plan to live in it.

Trahan told the Journal she may use the property for fundraising and charitable events.

During a phone call, Roth mentioned Trahan also discussed possibly converting the garage into a livable space for overnight guests. Aside from that, she has no plans to make any changes to the home.

“My view is it really is a collectible for her, and if you bring in anything modern, it ruins it,” said Roth, who, along with Fredrick Eklund, represented Trahan in negotiating the deal.

The sales price is roughly 9% less than the $3.5 million HGTV paid for the home in 2018.

When the home hit the market for the first time in nearly 50 years with an ask of $1.885 million, it triggered a high-profile bidding war that involved Lance Bass of ‘Nsync. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who oversees HGTV, announced plans to “restore the Brady Bunch home to its 1970s glory.”

The network invested $1.9 million and added 2,000 square feet to the property’s original footprint, which only fed into the Bradymania. More than 28 million viewers tuned in to the series “A Very Brady Renovation” to watch the actors who played the six Brady kids reunite and transform the home into a replica of the original set design.

They returned later to the renovated house for a holiday special.

In May, HGTV listed the Brady home for $5.5 million. Danny Brown of Compass held the listing.
