Pandemic inspires couple’s gourmet tortilla business

Houston, Texas-Stephanie Velasquez and Nick Vera were very excited to open their first restaurant after working for more than a decade with some of Houston’s top chefs.

But only two weeks later Paparota Korea Opened in downtown Houston in March 2020, a county-wide closure order was announced.

Each tortilla is made from Mexican ancestral corn, crushed using a millstone, then rolled by hand and pressed by hand.

Papalo Mercado also sells freshly baked Pandulce and other pastries, Horchata and Salsa.

Stephanie and Nick have reopened Paparota Kelia in Finnhall and are open Monday through Thursday.
