Anyone who was at the Empress Theater on Saturday night (July 9) saw and tasted the excellent performance of the Vallejo Festival Orchestra conducted by Master Thomas Conlin. VFO is arguably the best orchestra in the Bay Region, and Master Conlin exudes absolute energy. Along with exciting performances of some of the composer Richard Wagner’s most exciting music, he shared fascinating anecdotes about Wagner and his operas with the audience.
Othalie Graham was the solo soprano for the evening, and what a voice! While Mrs. Graham sang in the famous “Liebestod” of “Tristan und Isolde,” she was a goose-roar.
The orchestra played with precision and expressive beauty from the opening measures of the Overture to “The Flying Dutchman,” in a terrific afternoon bis, the famous “Ride of the Valkeries”.
The people of Vallejo should be very proud of both the Vallejo Festival Orchestra and the perfect historical and acoustic Empress Theater.
