A chase through several cities ended with Ontario police officers shooting to death a man in the Pomona area on Friday.

The chase began around 7:30 p.m. when officers attempted to stop traffic in a sedan near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue in Ontario, Cpl said. Bill Lee. The driver then led the officers in a chase through Montclair and Pomona.

The chase ended in the Ninth Street area and Kadota Avenue – an unincorporated area of ​​Pomona – when a driver collided with the suspect’s sedan.

The suspect fled and a K-9 police officer was put in pursuit. Police said he was armed with a handgun.

When officers approached the suspect, an officer shot the suspect, Lee said. It is not immediately known if the suspect fired. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified as 39-year-old Miguel Angel Rodriguez, a resident of Pomona.

A passenger from Rodriguez’s vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Lee said. The driver of the vehicle who remained trapped was treated at the scene.

The shooting is being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
