Leimert Park residents Rosalyn Bryant Clark and Briana Clark are among the celebrities featured at the 62nd Garden Strawberry Strawberry Festival.
The event starts on Friday, May 27, at 1 pm and lasts on May 28-29 from 10 am to 10 pm and on Monday, May 30, from 10 am to 9 pm. The free festival will take place in Village Green Park, located on Main Street and Euclid Street in Garden Gove.
The Clark family, a talented mother and daughter, are known for their achievements on the track, and both won big medals at the Olympics. Rosalyn won a silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics as a member of the 1,600-meter relay team. She coached Briana, who won the gold medal in the 400-meter dash at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.
Both stars on the track will take part in the opening ceremony of the festival on Friday at 6 pm, as well as in the parade and autograph session on Saturday at 10 am. In addition, they will be part of several events and attractions highlighting the festival on the occasion of Remembrance Day weekend.
Attractions include a VIP breakfast of pancakes, five prize competitions, 18 game booths and 33 carnival walks. Jaguar car shows, performances by several groups and 153 food vendors are also planned.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone back to our annual free admission festival. [We are] carefully and in accordance with state and local health protocols for COVID 19 and as such, we will install treatment plants at the festival for the safety of the general public attending our event this year, “said Patrick Kathleen, President of Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association.
