Oceanside appoints new fire chief

The city of Oceanside announced on Tuesday that it has selected its new fire chief, who will take up his duties at the end of next month.

The appointment of David Parsons as head of the Oceanside Fire Department, San Diego’s third largest county, will take effect on July 30, according to a city statement. He takes on the role of fire chief, Rick Robinson, who is expected to retire after six years as head of the North County’s fire department.

Parsons, who is currently head of the department’s Community Risk Reduction Division, has served as a firefighter for 27 years, 21 of which were in Oceanside, according to the city.

Parsons previously served as his deputy fire chief and deputy fire chief and served as a firefighter at Oceanside for 12 years.

He has also served as an incident manager and participated in a federal fire management team across the country.
