At least 12 cars break into SF’s Russian Hill

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Several people who had parked their cars along the same street in San Francisco’s Russian Hill neighborhood woke up Wednesday morning to find their cars broken down all night. .

The break-in occurred along Bay Street between Polk Street and Van Ness Avenues, right near a San Francisco high school. A video shared to KRON4 shows at least a dozen of his cars with passenger-side windows destroyed.

“It’s just disappointing when that happens. If you wake up early in the morning to go to work, your car window will be smashed,” said Hannah Zodikov, a resident of Russian Hill.

According to Zodikov, this is the second window replacement in the last year. Knowing the risks of city parking, she had to leave nothing in her car and clean up the clutter.

“It sucks to have to pay for new windows when there is nothing in the car,” Zodikov said.

Frank McMann was one of the lucky people whose car was not broken into. “I think it’s probably a bunch of punks doing this,” McMann said.

It was the second time in the last month that residents of San Francisco’s Second District witnessed a large number of car break-ins at once, with almost 12 car break-ins on record.

Supervisor Katherine Stefani told KRON4 that the city continues to have problems of break-ins because “SFPD faces an unprecedented staffing crisis and needs more police officers.” .

Supervisors said they will continue to work with police on prevention efforts for the time being.

“I’m not doing enough. I don’t know what I can do to stop it,” Zodikov said.

Supervisor Stephanie told KRON4 she plans to hold hearings on officer staffing and hiring later this month.
