Newsom Defeats Recall in Unofficial Results

Official election results will not be finalized until October 22, but Tuesday night primaries show that Californians have decided to appoint Governor Gavin Newsom.

So far, 64% of votes have been counted, according to the New York Times live election results, and about 66% of voters answered “no” to the first question, “Should Governor Gavin Newsom be recalled?”

Governor Newsom thanked California when the Associated Press and NBC predicted that Governor Newsom had broken the recall just hours after the vote was over.
