New PG&E rate varies based on time of customers’ energy usage

Fresno, CA (KFSN)-Thousands of PG & E customers in Central California will soon be paying for energy based not only on usage, but also on what time of day they use it.

Utilities will soon send notifications to more than 74,000 customers in the region to automatically transition to “hours of use” rates.

In terms of usage time, customers will pay more for energy between 4pm and 9pm daily.

PG & E officials say shifting California to cleaner energy resources is part of state-wide energy policy.

The Central Valley has 45,579 customers in Fresno County, 9,009 in Madera County, 9,516 in Merced County, 3,579 in Mariposa County, 2,684 in Kings County and 1,597 in Turea County since February 2022. This new pricing system will be introduced. ..

These customers will be notified by email this month if they wish to move to a different rate plan.

PG & E customers who move to a new usage rate and do not change to a different rate plan will have their invoice protected for the first year.

This means that if a resident finds that the price is higher than the current rate plan, PG & E will credit the difference for the first 12 months at the time of adjustment.
